A gunman opened fire Thursday at Florida State University, killing two people and wounding at least six others, according to the Associated Press (AP). The 20-year-old gunman is the son of a sheriff’s deputy. AP reports the deputy's former service weapon was used in the shooting.

The two people who died were not students at the university, according to AP, but the shooter is believed to be a student, said Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower.

The shooter along with five others are being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
