MUNCIE, Ind. — This past Saturday was senior night for the men's volleyball team. It was an afternoon filled with emotions, reflecting on memories and winning, as the cards pulled off the upset against Number 10 McKendree.
For the six seniors on the team, winning this game was more about putting into perspective what they accomplished during their time here.
“It means everything to come out here and get a win on Senior Night,” said Tinaishe Ndavazocheva, one of the senior players on the men's volleyball team. “It was emotional.”
Ball State took over the first set, but McKendree returned, winning the second set, making things even. This would be the only set they would win for the rest of the night; however, with the cards closing out the game, they would win the last two sets with a score of 25-23.
“We have a lot of guys who have made a lasting impact both on and off the court,” said Donan Cruz, head coach of the men's volleyball team.
That impact was this afternoon. Vanis Buckholz reflected on his time with the team and shared the importance of earning trust with the team.
“Gaining the respect of the seniors takes time, but it means a lot,” Buckholz said.
As the game concluded, emotions rained down, and applause was given as they introduced the seniors on their home floor one last time. There is no question that their impact on Ball State volleyball will last for a very long time.
