His death comes just after Easter Sunday and less than a month after being hospitalized for double pneumonia, according to AP..
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who met with the pontiff hours before on Easter Sunday, released a statement of condolences via X.
"My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him," Vance said via the social media platform.
