Marvel Production Supervisor joins Ball State students and staff for five weeks

Production Supervisor Knhik Haefner joined Ball State University as a visiting expert in residence from March 11 to April 11.

MUNCIE, Ind. — For the past five weeks, Knick Haefner has spent his time and given his expertise at Ball State University as a production supervisor. Haefner not only assisted in the flare of creativity but also showed the work being done behind the scenes.

Some of Haefner’s notable works were his time spent on Marvel Studios’ “What If” season three, as well as “Lucifer”, which ran from 2016 to 2021.

“It’s always deeply inspiring in my professional life to see artists working, work in progress, unfinished art, and being a part of a university is a thousand times that,” Haefner said. “Every student in every class has some kind of project that they’re working on.”

Haefner graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2017, then moved on to work for Cosa VFX as a computer graphics scheduling coordinator. He then went on to work for Marvel.

“It is an art form that asks more of you,” Haefner said. “That sees what could be in reality, and says it’s as simple as drawing a more perfect world. I think it is something that allows more people to express their view and artistic endeavors in a way, in a platform, that has never been seen before.”

Through passion and expertise, Haefner brought a new light into the eyes of media students. You can see more of Haefner’s work with “Marvel Zombies” which is set to release on Disney+ on October 3rd, 2025. He then plans to work for Flying Bark Productions in Australia.
