MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Central head boy’s basketball coach Justin Ullom has resigned from his position.

Ullom came to Central in 2022 after eight seasons at Monroe Central. Ullom is a Muncie native and a graduate of Delta High School. Ullom had led the Golden Bears to an undefeated regular season and finished atop the 2A poll in 2021-22.

Per Ullom’s statement on X, this decision came from “the culmination of several factors." The announcement comes four days after the passing of Rick Owens, an assistant coach from Ullom’s Monroe Central stint. Owens was a staple in Monroe Central basketball and an area referee for 33 years.

Ullom included in his statement that he hopes “to continue coaching [but] it’s clear to me that I am not the right fit for Muncie Central.”
