How students are preparing for finals

As finals week quickly creeps up, students make sure they are taking care of their mental health.

MUNCIE, Ind. — At Ball State University, finals week is less than two weeks away. As students prepare, they are starting to feel the pressure. They are trying to balance papers, projects, and exams. While many students are taking extra time to study, some realize how important self-care is.

Student Jayden Keen talks about what he does in order to balance his course load.

“I take time to myself, preferably, I like to take time in class to do schoolwork and all that. I would take maybe like two hours out of class to do more schoolwork,” Keen explained.

Many students may also find relief in simple self-care practices such as spending time with friends, walking outside, or simply watching a movie.

Kayla Giordano has many ways to take care of her mental health, but there is one she particularly loves, “An everything shower always cures at least a problem that you may feel you have, you can just relax in a shower and come out and feel refreshed and maybe with new ideas.”

Ball State's Counseling Center offers resources for students feeling overwhelmed, and several student organizations host wellness events to help students manage stress.

As finals season goes into full swing, students are reminded that taking care of their mental health can be the key to finishing strong.
