Ball Student Government Association (SGA) holds inauguration for new executive board

Ball State’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its last senate meeting of the 2024-2025 academic year.

To start off the meeting, the SGA adviser, Abby Haworth, gave her opening remarks about what SGA accomplished this year, including providing a bus shuttle to weekend sport events and hosting an election night watch party during the 2024 presidential election in November.

“These programs and meetings advanced the student community and the voice,” Haworth said.

Following her speech Vice President Brenna Large gave out the Senate Order award, which  recognizes the passion and hard work done by senators. 

This award went to Senate Order 01 24-25. This order recognized the Women's basketball team winning the MAC tournament and earning a bid for the NCAA.

SGA moved forward into senate and cabinet awards. Awards given were Senator of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Chair of the Year, Dynamic Duo andCabinet Member of the Year.

Senator of the Year went to Sen. Philene Evett, Rookie of the Year went to Sen. Caleb Trinoskey, Chair of the Year went to Sen. Casen Lake, the Dynamic Duo award went to Chief Administrators Hunter Case and Sen. Evett. Cabinet Member of the Year went to Nathan Ritz.

Caucus and Committee of the Year awards were also awarded to the collegiate caucus and academic affairs.

Executive Member of the Year went to Large.

“Brenna has shown what it means to lead, not just with excellence but with empathy,” Haworth said upon presenting the award

Following that, SGA moved into inauguration of the president pro tempore. Case was inaugurated by the outgoing President Pro Tempore, Shaina Miller. 

After Case’s inauguration, SGA went into the treasurer's inauguration. Sen. Caroline Emerick inaugurated by Casey Rockel. Sen. Evett was inaugurated as chief administrator by Case. 

After that, SGA moved into Large’s final remarks. Large shared how she had been in SGA all four years of college and how she found SGA at the activity fair. She also had her application filed out for the At-large senator before classes even started.

“It was through this organization I was able to grow as a person,” Large said.

Throughout her time in college, Large said she has served in every senate leadership role from caucus and committee chair to parliamentarian and president pro tempore. Now graduating, Large is  ending her run as SGA’s Vice President. 

She celebrated the executive board since it was the best of the boards she ever served on.

After Large’s remarks, the vice president inauguration followed where Large inaugurated Miller as the new vice president for SGA.

After Miller’s inauguration President Noah Poole gave his final remarks to the senate. He thanked the many people who helped the student body. He also expressed pride and excitement for the future of the association and the university at large. 

“As I leave you today, please assist me in reforming our commitment to the student body. May we strive to better ourselves, our campus and our community,” Poole said.

After Poole’s remarks the presidential inauguration followed where Poole inaugurated Chelsea Murdock as the new president of SGA.

Chelsea Murdock being inaugurated as Ball State University's incoming Student Government Association President by outgoing president Noah Poole. “It is our responsibility to uphold the spirit of benefiance and model the traits that truly embody what it means to be a cardinal,” Murdock said.


After her inauguration, Murdock addressed the senate. 

“We have been able to elevate our students' experience. Now, we must give students the momentum they need to continue their growth as Cardinals,” Murdock said.

Murdock said there is still so much to do, such as expanding the cardinal kitchen to have hygiene products, troubleshooting campus apps like MyBallState, sustainability throughout campus and making SGA more accessible to the student body.

“It is our responsibility to uphold the spirit of Beneficence and model the traits that truly embody what it means to be a cardinal,” Murdock said.
