MUNCIE, Ind. — With the arrival of Spring, it also means the arrival of rainy weather. While this weather might make most people want to enjoy the indoors, the Natural Resources Environmental Management club, also known as the NREM club, is out in the rain, aiming to help Ball State's campus look just a little bit nicer.

The NREM club was brought back to Ball State’s campus during the Fall 2024 semester thanks to a new leadership team. However, their campus-wide cleanups are a brand-new idea to the club itself.

“This is actually our first campus cleanup that we have been able to set up,” said Kate McCaskill, NREM club president. “We’re partnering up with Muncie Delaware Clean and Beautiful which is a company you can call and they’ll give you pickers, we have like vests and trash bags.”

Despite being prepared for cleanup, the weather created a small barrier to their plans. However, that did not stop members from showing up.

“I just love that these people are so passionate about it,” said Tessa Williams, the vice president of the NREM club. “Like we had a pretty good turnout, I was honestly not expecting a ton because it is a little rainy and gloomy, but I just love that people are so passionate about it.”

On top of having members show up to help clean, being able to give back to Ball State's campus gave a sense of honor to Williams.

“It makes me feel very honored to be able to actually do something about active problems in our community,” Williams said. “It makes me feel good to be someone that’s actually there and doing stuff, and hopefully it can bring more people.”

If you are a student at Ball State University interested in joining the NREM club, meetings take place every other Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 in the Cooper Science Building.
