Ball State’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its weekly senate meeting April 2. The meeting began with a special guest “surprise” for One Ball State Day from Charlie Cardinal, who came to interact with senators.
Following the surprise, there was a budget request from Academic Affairs Chair Caleb Trinoskey. He requested $568.14 for the “Hit the Books Bash” event April 26 from 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. at Bracken Library.
The request included; $59.97 for three Celsius Mixed Flavor 12-packs, $5.99 for a Kirkland Water 40-pack, $8.54 for a Gatorade 12-Pack, $6.19 for an Oreo Family Size Pack, $22.45 for Frito Lay Family Snack-Pack, $15.00 Margin for Error and $450.00 for Domino's Pizza.
The vote was 31-0 with one abstention.
Following the request, SGA moved on to executive reports where President Noah Poole updated the senate on progress with the green spaces and the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Committee.
Poole relayed a message from Student Center Director Michael McKean, who wants more student input and he wants to have the undergraduates who are in the School of Art have their art featured in the student center.
For the green spaces, Poole said they are in the final stage of ordering the amenities and they should be expecting them next year.
“Those should be installed either over the summer or right before the school year starts next semester in the fall,” he said.
Vice President Brenna Large informed the senate that April 9 will be the last regular senate meeting and after that will be the inauguration on April 16, which is open to the public. During the inauguration, awards will be handed out and senators will be inaugurated into their new positions for the next school year.

Chief of Staff, Chelsea Murdock, talked about the April 7 round table talk SGA is hosting with the Black Student Association from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the Whitinger Business Building on-campus.
After executive reports, SGA discussed new business where two new amendments were introduced: one new resolution and one senate order.
The first amendment was from the governmental relations committee bylaws’ secondary
amendment. This summarizes expanding the governmental relations committee’s responsibilities and enhancing the community.
The second one came from the survey committee. The amendment would reconfigure the goals and duties of the committee to properly align with their current needs.
Following the amendments, there was a resolution to encourage civic engagement at Ball State University. This would allow students to not have class on election day every four years, making them eligible to go home and vote.
There was no voting on this, just a discussion.
With no new or unfinished business, the meeting was adjourned. The next senate meeting will be April 9 at 3:15 p.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall A.
