MUNCIE, Ind. –The Ball State Cardinals are currently off to a stellar start to their conference play for this season, sitting at a 13-2 record.
They find themselves atop the MAC standings at the halfway point. They are also poised to post their first 20-conference-win season in a non-altered MAC schedule since before COVID-19.
For senior pitcher Jacob Hartlaub, the team can get even better than they are now.
“It’s really scary that I don’t think our offense has been the best that it's been so fa,r and we're still doing what we’re doing, so once everything clicks, I really think the sky's the limit for us,” Hartlaub explained.
The Cardinals are not just putting up numbers in the win column. They’re also putting up eye-popping numbers that lead the league in several categories as well.
“Statistically speaking, we’re first in the league in pitching, first in the league in defense, and we’re fourth in the league play in hitting,” head coach Rich Maloney said. “So I mean if you do those things, you're going to have a chance to win.”
This team is clicking on all levels, and the one thing that the Cards are building between one another is trust.
“Trusting the guys behind us, hitters getting a timely hit when they need to, putting up runs constantly,” said Hartlaub.
The Cardinals hope to continue to stay hot as their next MAC game is on April 17 away at Bowling Green. First pitch is set for 3 p.m..
