YORKTOWN, Ind. – Music revival has taken over not only Yorktown, but also places around it. Muncie is one of the nearby cities that also favors this revival. At the Yorktown Public Library, books aren’t the only thing available. The librarians offer many teen and adult programs. On Tuesday, the library offered an adult-only music through the decades trivia night. This gave families and individuals something fun to do on an adult's night out.
“Offering a space where teens can come and just hang out is pretty important in the community. Giving them a place to come hang out after school is not something a lot of places around town are super fond of, so that’s something we are able to provide,” Teen and Adult Programming Librarian Haiden Roan said.
The event consisted of title and lyric questions from different decades. There were four rounds: 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. The top three winners received prizes, but even those who didn’t win still had a lot of fun. The participants ranged from many different ages of adulthood. Each had its recognizable era, and some were less well-known. There was reminiscing, community bonding, and even dancing in chairs.
“Music is something that everyone can relate to, no matter what different genres you like or whatever, and you hear a song and it just kinda makes you move or start singing along and you don’t even realize you’re doing it, It just gets into you,” trivia participant Michelle Sharp said.
Events like these help bring music hype back into an era of technology and creation. Artists continue to make music, and people still listen to it on a daily basis. Popular songs are well-known and used in music trivia and as backgrounds for social media videos. Still, there are so many more left almost unnoticed or completely unknown, and keeping music alive is the job of both the makers and listeners.
Imagine a world of silence. It’s not as interesting. Music and sounds make up our everyday lives. The music revival happening all over the United States helps us realize how much we rely on the good feeling of listening to music. Join the music revival and help make a difference.
