Since Ball State women’s basketball lost in the first round of the NCCA Women’s Basketball Tournament, the Daily News sports section and the NewsLink Indiana sports director have a couple of days in Waco, Texas to create content.
The group went to breakfast at the Magnolia Press, which is a part of the Magnolia brand. After getting some coffee, they then walked around the Magnolia compound and discovered what it all holds.
Magnolia has a turf field with cornhole, soccer, dodgeball and a baseball field.
Andrew Berger and Titus Slaughter were animals on the pitch.
The group left Magnolia and walked around downtown Waco to see what it offered. We walked through the main street, explored the courthouse and more.
After a long walk, we were back in the hotel room where Elijah Poe had an interview. After wrapping up the interview, we walked to Cupp's, which our first Uber driver had recommended when we arrived at the airport.
It was around noon, and there were no available seats inside the small retro-diner, so we were forced to sit outside. The cool wind on a day when temperatures were above 80 was absolutely perfect.
We all agreed that it was one of the best burgers we had ever had, so we decided to do the most Texas thing ever: visit the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum. Not the MLB Texas Rangers, the law enforcement Texas Rangers.
The Museum had guns, historical artifacts, paintings, displays and more to tell the story of the Texas Rangers. Berger and Poe related everything to Red Dead Redemption Two, a video game set in the period in which most of the museum was centered.
After wandering the halls for an hour, the group walked on the river surrounding Waco and took an Uber back to the hotel.
After a quick recharging of our phones, we walked to Pivovar, a restaurant that brews beer and serves Czech food. The homemade sourdough pretzel was the softest pretzel the crew had ever eaten.
We also went to MOD Pizza, where you can make whatever pizza you like and they throw it into their oven to bake.
The group finally retired to the hotel room for the night around 9:30 p.m.
