MUNCIE, Ind. – Delaware County’s Farm Festival made its highly anticipated return to the fairgrounds this year, bringing together the community to celebrate local agriculture and support area businesses.
The free two-day event on March 18 and 19 had all kinds of “down on the farm” excitement.
The festival served as a reminder that farming season is just around the corner. While the event had several fun activities, it also offered an immersive, hands-on experience for both kids and adults alike.
Gary Wilcox led a sheep shearing demonstration for attendees to watch in the Community Building.
The event also served as a platform for local businesses to showcase their products. Local vendors set up booths offering festival-related items, from handmade crafts to farm-themed goods. The support for local businesses was evident as visitors enjoyed shopping while learning about the agricultural industry.
On Tuesday, the festival hosted an auction at Heartland Hall, where local businesses donated items for bidding. All proceeds from the auction will go toward ensuring the festival's success and longevity, helping future generations enjoy the same educational experiences as those in the past.
“In 1979 a group of local farmers got together and decided that they needed to do something to try to help educate the non-farmer families,” said Joe Scott. “Because of growing up on the farm, I wanted to share that experience with others.”
Joe Scott and his father have been dedicated volunteers for over 40 years now.
The festival also offers two $500 scholarships to students with a preference to those who hope to study agriculture.
