Eagles wrestling looks forward to state tournament

Delta Wrestling is headed to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.

MUNCIE, Ind. — The ever-popular IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament is on the horizon once again. Delta High School will be sending their wrestling program back to the big dance once again.

The Eagles’ postseason run was extended after a dominant Semi-State performance in Ft. Wayne this past weekend. They finished with an overall team score of 115.5, and five wrestlers are set to compete in the State tournament.

“We look forward to this end goal every year, and as a wrestler growing up, you want to compete at state,” head coach Cody LeCountt said.

“We’ve shown glimpses of just being a dominant team. We know we must continue to prove to ourselves that we can compete at that high level.”

To be able to prove it to their opponents, they have to be able to prove it to themselves. With that dominance comes confidence. Senior Kaeb Stebbins demonstrates what Eagle Pride is all about on and off the mat.

“We have to go in there with our best effort,” Stebbins said. “If I wrestle, if we wrestle how we did at Semi-State, I think we will have a real chance at coming home with at least a top-five finish.”

Round one of the IHSAA State Finals begins this Friday at 3 p.m., and championship matches are scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
