Feb. 12, Ball State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) held their weekly meeting in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall A, with special guest, Cardinal Central, opening it.
Cardinal Central Associate Director Courtney Barrett and Assistant Director of Support Services Bethany Allen presented their student-focused services.
“Instead of having to hop from office-to-office, we serve as the hub of information as it relates to anything relating to the business-side of being a student,” Barrett said.
Cardinal Central, located on the first floor of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, offers financial, billing and class registration services, while also aiding 21st Century Scholars, veteran’s benefits and total classes withdrawal.
First-year geography major Tyler Gatliff applied for the At-Large Caucus. He said he wants to focus on transportation — mainly bringing back a tracking app for university buses — dorm uniformity and having more food options in dining halls.
Gatliff was voted in as a senator 30-0 with three abstentions.
The Student Services Committee presented their budget request for their Saint Patrick’s Day alcohol safety tabling event March 10. The event will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Scramble Light.
The was approved 33-0 with 1 abstention.
Student senate also discussed an amendment for the Government Relations Committee’s bylaws, introduced in SGA’s Jan. 29 meeting.
The amendment proposed to update the language of the bylaws. Instead of having a member of the committee attending Muncie City Council meetings, the language would change to members representing SGA’s views in “transparent and representative relations involving direct impact government bodies.”
This proposed change is due the committee not being able to satisfy the requirement because of time restraints, while also giving the committee time for redevelopment.
Author, and Government Relations Chair Casen Lake, clarified the wording change would enable committee members to access city, state or other governmental bodies that impact the university.
The amendment passed 33-0 with one abstention.
The next SGA meeting will be Feb. 19 at 3:15 in the student center.
