Ball State men’s lacrosse season preview

The Ball State lacrosse club is hard at work preparing for their first game of the season.

MUNCIE, Ind — The Ball State men’s lacrosse club is preparing for their first game of the season against Butler on March 22 at Butler University.

Club President, Dominic Catanzarite, said that they are preparing for the season by working on fundamentals and conditioning.

“In preparation for our first game, we are going to try and push the guys pretty hard,” Catanzarite said. “We're in decent shape right now but we still need to work on things like conditioning and running.”

Last season, the club lost all of their games in the fall, Catanzarite said that they did a great job hanging in there with teams that are far better than them. So far this spring, he has seen improvement within members and the club as a whole.

“Things I know we have improved on from the fall are things that are fundamental like ball handling, shooting and dodging defenders,” Catanzarite said.

Catanzarite also went on to talk about how there might be players on the team in the fall who haven’t played since high school, and scraping off the rust the more they practice.

“It was mainly just about getting the guys back into the sport in the fall and I think now that we have a practice routine, I am starting to see a lot of improvement,” Catanzarite explained.

Every team has a goal they want to achieve for the season. Whether it be to win or to just have fun, Catanzarite said that the goal is to maintain positivity among the team.

“Obviously we want to win but the guys we have and want on in our club are just guys that want to have fun with the sport. As long as we’re having fun, which isn’t hard to do with this group of guys, I think that’s the biggest goal we can hit.”

The club does not compete towards a championship and is not in any conferences. However, Catanzarite hopes to see change in the future.

“We are not technically in a conference right now, but in the past when we were more established we were. It costs money and we need to be more established. When we join a conference it helps out a lot with scheduling and eventually at the end of the conference season we would compete for a championship.”
