Former Ball State football head coach Mike Neu accepts position with Illinois

Former Ball State head football coach Mike Neu has found a new home. Neu will join the University of Illinois coaching staff as a Senior Offensive Analyst.

Neu played at Ball State and coached the Cardinals from 2016 until his firing Nov. 2024. In that time, he went 40-63 and coached them to a Mid-American Conference championship in 2020. Neu will join a program that is coming off a successful 10-3 (6-3) Big Ten season which saw the No. 21 Illini win the Cheez-It Citrus bowl over No. 14 South Carolina.

Neu will join head coach Bret Bielema and his staff.
