The League of Women's voters persuades the community on the importance of voting

The League of Women Voters holds forums to help educate their community on local politicians.

MUNCIE, Ind— During the election season voters may find themselves asking “Why is it important to vote?” Luckily, The League of Women Voters serves to answer that question in order to boost civic engagement and to educate the community on politics

“We make sure that voters have all the information that is why it is important,” said Linda Hanson, president of the League of Women's Voters of Indiana. “If we want our democracy to survive, we have to be willing to look at all of the pictures.”

The League of Women's voters has been in the public eye for over a century to inspire people to participate in their democracy. However, the initiative means a lot more to Hanson.

“It's difficult because we need people to talk to each other if we are going to make our democracy work,” Hanson explained. “I have grandkids. I want them to survive happily in a democracy.”

The organization not only provides baseline information on Muncie candidates, but it also provides information for citizens in order to help their very own community.

“This neighborhood you can put these flyers,” said Hanson. “I had these maps all over my dining room table assigning people to get these flyers out for the community meeting.”

The League of Women's voters will continue to educate the community on politics not just through election season, but throughout the whole year.
