Ball State’s Student Government Association (SGA) held their weekly senate meeting Nov. 20. Vice President of Student Affairs, Ro-Anne Royer Engle, came to talk to SGA about
students as partners in university governance. Engle also discussed what shared governance is.
“Governance is the decision making authority that incorporates input from staff, faculty and students and special interest groups,” she said.
Engle shared her history of how she was once in their seats as an SGA senator at the University of Mississippi, where she focused heavily on student representation.
“I know sometimes [challenging ideas] may seem like the hardest thing to do. It is a skill that, when you develop, will serve you really well in life,” Engle said.
Following Engle’s presentation, SGA welcomed fourth-year intercommunications student Brooke Stallings to speak, who was applying to be the Elections Board Commissioner for SGA.
Stallings would make sure the elections for SGA are fair and help assist the vice presidential and presidential debates.
Stallings was voted into this job 33-2 with two abstentions.
