Ball State’s resource “Cardinal’s Vote” to help election engagement

Ball State offers a non-partisan resource to students and Indiana voters to become confident participants in the election process.

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State offers a non-partisan resource to students and Indiana voters to become confident participants in the election process.

The Center for Economic and Civic Learning works hand in hand with Cardinal’s  Vote.

The Teachers College building may be known to hold mainly classes for Ball State students. However, on the eighth floor, students can locate Cardinal’s Vote for more information regarding the election.

“The other initiative we’ve undertaken is a democracy fellow’s program,” David Roof, the Director of The Center for Economic and Civic Learning said. “The idea behind that is that students would rather hear from other students about voting than from someone like me.”

The initiative is to have student democracy members go to classes and share a presentation surrounding voter information.

“We know that when people are in a community that encourages voting, they are more likely to vote themselves. So, I think just the simple act of encouraging, of letting other people know they plan on voting”, said Roof.

“I have seen a lot more interaction and just engagement and discussion with my peers than I have seen with professors or staff and faculty have when they are discussing the election with the students,” democracy member Andrew Hopkins said.

The resource participates in data collection among Ball State students and their voting tendencies. The data collection contributes to a national data collection.

Due to their data efforts at Ball State, “All In”, a voter engagement platform awarded Cardinal’s Vote the Highly Established Action Plan.

Citizens must bring an ID, or a state school-issued ID that includes a photo and an expiration date.

The program ensures to pull out all the stops for Indiana voters and Ball State students.
