MUNCIE, Ind. — A new community service organization is determined to provide needs for Muncie families, homeless and single mothers. Ark Muncie was founded in September of this year, gathering people from the Muncie community to give back.

Distributing items such as water jugs, heaters and hygienic products for free is no bother for co-founders Jacob Cool and David Herbert. After serving in the military and reconnecting with his faith, Cool recognized the disparities within his community and wanted to help.

“I turned out of a Walmart parking lot, and I met a gentleman there who was homeless. I didn't find out until I took him from Walmart and took him to his house,” Cool said. “It made me think there needs to be an organization that meets the gaps in Muncie.”

Herbert had already begun giving back to his community prior to joining the group. He explained that he resonates with the people he helps, which drives him to keep giving back.

“Going from scarcity and survival to doing well,  now I'm at a point of ‘wait I have something to give,’” he said.

Both founders hope to expand the group as much progress has been made since September. Ark Muncie accepts donations at pay.arkmuncie.com and is reachable on Facebook.
