With the end of the Delaware County high school volleyball season coming to its conclusion, the Ball State Daily News, in partnership with the Muncie Sports Commission, has decided the candidates for the Volleyball Player of the Year award which will be announced at an awards show in the spring.
The name in bold will be one of the nominees for the award and there will also be honorable mentions on this list. To help with the process, area coaches sent in their picks for the nominees. With that, here is the 2024 Daily News’ and Muncie Sports Commission's All-Delaware County Volleyball Team.
Yorktown
Nominee: Senior Charlotte Vinson
Honorable mention: senior Addi Applegate
After returning to the court from a medical emergency over the summer, Vinson’s play became one of the biggest strengths for the Tigers. The Indiana University Commit leads the team with 4.3 kills per – the county’s leader – set and a 0.342 hitting percentage.
Her play helped Yorktown get to the 4A state championship game against Carroll at Ball State’s Worthen Arena. The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
Daleville
Nominee: Senior Trishell Johnson
Honorable mention: Cassidy Rees
Johnson has been a staple with the Broncos’ volleyball program for the last four years. This season, she was second on the team with 4.7 kills per set. In her time with the black and gold, she launched 1,178 kills.
Wes-Del
Nominee: Senior Amelia Husdon-Roberts
Honorable mention: Freshman Aubrey Antrim
In her final season with the Warriors, Hudson-Roberts left it all on the court, leading the black and maroon with 3.1 kills per set. She was second on the team with 34 aces and 0.5 aces per set.
Wapahani
Nominee: Senior Sophia Beeson
Honorable mention: Junior Emily Luce
This season, the Raiders went 28-5 and 9-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference. Leading the charge was Beeson as the upperclassmen led the team with 3.8 kills per set. In her four-year career with the red and white, Beeson recorded 911 kills and 616 digs.
Burris
Nominee: Senior Lilly Howell
Honorable mention: Junior Mya Trammel
During the 2024 season, Howell led the Owls with 4.1 kills per set and had a 0.441 hitting percentage. In her time with Burris volleyball, the senior recorded 1,227 kills and helped the blue and white win the 2023 IHSAA 2A volleyball state championship.
Delta
Nominee: Senior Addie Phillippe
Honorable mention: Junior Maddie Grove
Throughout the season, Phillippe was a player the blue and gold trusted as the senior led them with 3.9 kills per set and totaled 259 kills. She also had 154 assists and 200 digs. She finished her career with 513 kills.
Cowan
Nominee: Sophomore Savannah Hall
Honorable mention: Senior Delaney Brinson
Throughout the 2024 season, Hall was one Blackhawk who became one of the team’s go-to players when they needed anything. The sophomore was second on the black and gold with 1.7 kills per set and led them with 2.9 digs per set. In her young high school volleyball career, Hall already has 193 kills.
Muncie Central
Nominee: Junior Grace Walker
Honorable mention: Sophomore Kendall Kahle
According to the coaches of Muncie Central volleyball, Walker led the Bearcats through challenges with ‘grace and fidelity.’ In that time, she also displayed her talent on the court as the junior earned a spot on the All-North Central Conference team.
