MUNCIE, Ind — Young students from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and places around the world gather for this week's language night. While some students already know the language, other students and teachers come to learn and appreciate what is being taught.
Speaker Tsu Nguyen, a Linguistics major, created a presentation breaking down the language, explaining how it connects to different types of areas around Vietnam and other locations in the east, and providing analytics on how it evolved over the last couple of years.
“Language night helps people get access to learning other languages,” Tsu Nguyen said. “Not many students in our university know how to speak this language, so this is a good way for students to get access.”
This night was filled with a presentation created by Tsu Nguyen, and along with that she included activities, tea, and she brought up other students who also knew the language to help teach the room about the affirmations of vietnamese culture.
“It has been a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and students to share their life experiences,” said Martina Schiavo. “Despite our differences, it makes us very strong, very connected, and most of all, very ready to help each other out.”
Young students to older faculty, everyone involved is very sure that having a language night in ball state is a very good way to become connected with each other, and they believe that it is a good way to enrich the likelihood of other students from other nationalities to come to ball state as students in the future.
