MUNCIE, Ind. — Amidst the downpour of heavy rain, Muncie Central High School's boys' varsity soccer team showcased their resilience, defeating Yorktown High School 5-0 on Sept 23, 2024. This victory marked the Bearcats' sixth consecutive win, boosting their season record to (8-4-1). The match was characterized by slick conditions, but Muncie Central’s players embraced the challenge, displaying skill and determination.
“It was just a matter of understanding the surface, knowing ahead of time, and being prepared to receive and play quickly,” Coach Shae Hill stated.
The team’s ability to adapt to the weather conditions was evident. While the victory was an achievement for the Bearcats, Hill emphasized the importance of staying grounded.
“Winning streaks are nice, but to be honest, in our coaching staff's mind,” Hill said. “It’s a one-game win streak. That’s what it has to be every single time. To keep it going, we have to take it one game at a time. We still have tough competition left.”
Hill attributes the team’s success to a disciplined approach, highlighting the importance of maintaining focus and executing their game plan. He mentioned that the key during this win streak has been keeping their emotions in check, playing their style of soccer, sticking to the game plan and doing even the most minor things right.
“We like to say that winning the small battles adds up to a larger victory,” Hill expressed.
“The guys have been really good about paying attention to detail, and it’s served us well so far.”
Muncie Central takes on Daleville next on September 25 at 5 p.m.
