Prosecutors are recommending a new sentence for Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989, according to the Associated Press (AP). Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that the brothers could receive 50 years to life, making them eligible for immediate parole. Gascón cited their ages at the time of the crimes and their rehabilitation efforts as reasons for resentencing. While some family members support their release, others oppose it, according to AP. A petition will be filed Friday, and a hearing is expected within a month. The brothers have been imprisoned for 34 years.
