MUNCIE, Ind. — This past weekend, Ball State’s Men’s and Women's swimming and diving team kicked off their 2024-25 season campaign welcoming in UIC. The women put up a strong performance, capturing a 176.5-123.5 win over UIC at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The men, however, came up short with a score of 143.5-156.5. Coach Agnew expressed that he liked what he saw despite both of his teams splitting.
“Our girls played really well even being that we were shorthanded,” Agnew said.
To secure the win on the women’s side, Junior Payton Kelly captured first place in both the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.25 and 100 freestyle with a time of 51.97. She also helped with two winning relay teams, the 200 medley relay (1:44.68) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.84).
The men’s side team showcased a strong performance despite the loss, led by efforts from sophomore Malcolm Slater and freshman Andre Friend.
Malcolm Slater claimed victories in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.42 and the 500 freestyle in 4:41.59.
Freshman Andre Friend made an impact in his first-ever collegiate meet, winning the 50 freestyle in 21.43 and the 100 butterfly in 51.38. He then capped off his first meet by leading the first-place 400 freestyle relay team, which led to a winning time of 3:08.05. Both teams are now gearing up for their next meeting, which takes place on Friday, Oct 18, vs. The University of Miami of Ohio at 3 p.m.. This will be a highly anticipated meeting for this team. Coach Agnew mentioned that his teams always look forward to playing Miami of Ohio. They will face off again at the Miami Invitational, which starts on Dec 5.
