ANDERSON, Ind. – A single-engine plane crashed this morning in a cornfield east of Anderson, according to the Madison County Police Department. There were no survivors.
Police were notified of the crash in the 4300 block of East 100 South at 9:50 this morning. Four people were scheduled to board the aircraft according to the pre-flight plan. It is unconfirmed how many were inside.
“It was hard to tell through the wreckage,” Darwin Dwiggins, Madison County Sheriff Department Captain, said when asked about passenger confirmation.
An eyewitness told Dwiggins that the southeast-bound plane appeared to flip over and nosedive into the field.
The aircraft’s altitude was too high according to Dwiggins. The solution was to locate a new approach to land on a different runway.
The flight departed from Fort Dodge, Iowa, around 6:48 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at the Anderson Municipal Airport at 9:54 a.m..
The last known time of communication between the pilot and the control tower is currently unknown.
FAA from Indianapolis and NTSB from Chicago, IL, are on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
