Muncie Burris volleyball catches fire

MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Burris Women’s Volleyball has started the season on fire with 14 wins and two losses. Through 16 games, they have a set record of 34 to 6. With such an incredible start to the season, the reigning 2A state champions hope to continue their hot streak and carry this momentum in the latter half of their season.

The team is led by veteran head coach Jim Craig. Jim has been head coach of the Owls since 2020, and in his four seasons with the Owls, Craig has yet to have a losing season, finishing each season with at least 20 wins. Craig had this to say about potentially becoming back-to-back state champions.

“I don’t think about it. Every year is a new year. We lost some really good leadership through graduation and we are trying to build that backup,” said Craig.

Leading on the court is senior hitter, and UNC-Charlotte commit Lilly Howell. Howell leads the state of Indiana in successful hitting percentage with .557 successful hits. Howell’s success with the team has caused her to develop a target on her back going into each game.

“The rest of the team is just as credible for all of our success as I am. It’s not just me, it's the whole team,” Howell said.

Muncie Burris continues their season on the road against Delta on Wednesday, September 11th, where they hope to stay undefeated on the road. The Owls also look to stay undefeated in Pioneer conference play as they play Seton Hall at home on September 17th.
