The Muncie Parks Department announced Aug. 29 via Facebook that Tuhey Park pool will be closed for Labor Day weekend — and subsequently the rest of the year — as it would have been the pool’s last operating weekend of 2024.

The decision comes just days before the holiday as a result of the numerous break-ins and acts of vandalism the property has seen over the summer. The acts of destruction are particularly discouraging because the pool property recently underwent security renovations. In July 2022.

“We are disheartened that the actions of a few have affected so many,” The City of Muncie said in the Facebook Post.

The news comes as the city faces a heatwave
