Delaware County high school sports results from 8/19-8/24

Below are the highlights and results of this past week of Delaware County sporting events that the Ball State Daily News staff was unable to attend. Please send stats to sports@bsudaily.news, zachary.carter@bsu.edu or david.moore@bsu.edu to make sure your team is featured. 

Monday (Aug. 19)

Yorktown volleyball opened its season at home against Westfield. The Tigers swept the Shamrocks 3-0. Yorktown senior Ariane Wright led the way for the green and black with 11 kills.

Daleville volleyball began its season on the road against Tri, sweeping the Titans 3-0. Broncos’ senior Trishell Johnson led the black and gold with seventeen kills.

Cowan volleyball traveled to Winchester in its season opener but would fall in three sets. The Blackhawks had three players tied with two kills each; sophomore Savannah Hall, junior Keira Drew and senior Allie Trimble.

Wapahani girls’ golf took on Delta in a county matchup and the Raiders defeated the Eagles 189-209. The red and white were led by Kenzie Brannon who shot a 44. 

Tuesday (Aug. 20)

Muncie Central volleyball took down Alexandria-Monroe on the road in its season opener in five sets. Bearcats’ sophomore Kendall Kahle and junior Kadence Smith each notched nine kills for the purple and black.

Yorktown girls’ soccer went on the road to take on Blackford. The Tigers took the victory over the Bruins 1-0. No stats could be found.

Yorktown boys’ soccer opened its season at home against Hamilton Heights. The Tigers dropped their season opener 5-2. No stats could be found.

Muncie Central boys’ soccer began its season on the road against Jay County. The Bearcats fell in their season opener 1-0. No stats could be found.

Muncie Central girls’ soccer hosted Knightstown and lost the match 5-0. No stats could be found.

Delta boys’ soccer defeated Daleville in its season opener 11-1. Eagles’ sophomore Cooper Pierce and senior Keith Anieto led the blue and gold with three goals apiece. Broncos’ sophomore Jeffrey Hamilton scored the lone goal for Daleville.

Wapahani girls’ soccer traveled to Elwood and took down the Panthers by a score of 10-1. No stats could be found.

Delta girls’ golf took on Daleville at Albany Golf Club where the Eagles shot 217 as a team and ended in a three-way tie for medalists between Avery Stinson, Olivia Chalfant and Josey Morris.

Wednesday (Aug. 21)

Muncie Central volleyball traveled to Elwood, sweeping the Panthers 3-0. Bearcat sophomore Kendall Kahle racked up 12 kills to lead the charge.

Wes-Del volleyball took on Blue River-Valley on the road and was defeated in three sets. Warriors’ senior Amelia Hudson-Roberts tallied 12 kills to lead the way for the maroon and black.

Yorktown girls’ soccer hosted Anderson and improved to 2-1 on the year with a 9-0 victory over the Indians. No stats could be found.

Yorktown girls’ golf took on Muncie Central at Hickory Hills and shot a season-low of 195. Tigers’ freshman Lucy Melton led the way for the green and white shooting a 44.

Delta girls’ golf traveled to Tri-County Golf Club to take on Mount Vernon and Shenandoah. The Eagles split the match, placing second with a team score of 191. Avery Stinson medaled with a 41.

Thursday (Aug. 22)

Yorktown volleyball traveled to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory in its second contest of the week and swept the Braves 3-0. Tigers’ senior Shanese Williams tallied 13 kills for Yorktown in the victory.

Delta volleyball hosted Jay County in the Eagles' second match of the season. The blue and gold swept the Patriots 3-0. Delta senior Addie Phillippe led the way for the Eagles with 19 kills.

Wapahani volleyball hit the road to take on Lapel and swept the Bulldogs 3-0. Raiders’ senior Sophia Beeson was able to rack up sixteen kills for the red and white.

Cowan volleyball went on the road to take on the Tri Titans. The Blackhawks fell in four sets, and junior Keira Drew racked up 11 kills for the black and yellow.

Muncie Burris volleyball began its season with a road contest against Monroe Central. The Owls swept the Golden Bears 3-0. No stats could be found

Yorktown boys’ soccer traveled to New Palestine for a double-header against the Dragons. The Tigers fell in both matches 1-0. No stats could be found.

Delta boys’ soccer went on the road to Blackford and defeated the Bruins in a shutout 10-0. Delta junior Maddox Huffman notched four goals leading the Eagles.

Muncie Central girls’ soccer hosted county rival Wapahani in its second home match of the week. The Bearcats narrowly defeated the Raiders 6-5. Muncie Central junior Naomi Galan scored all six goals for the purple and white.

Muncie Central boys’ soccer defeated Wapahani at home by a score of 8-1. No stats could be found.

Delta girls’ soccer opened its season with a 2-1 home loss against Eastbrook. Eagles’ junior Jordan Bunch put the lone goal in the back of the net for Delta.

Daleville boys’ soccer dropped to 0-2 on the young season in a road shutout loss against the Eastern Comets. No stats could be found.

Muncie Burris began its season against the Richmond Red Devils and wound up in a 1-1 tie at the end of the match. No stats could be found.

Wapahani girls’ golf completed a two-day event at Cardinal Hills by defeating Daleville 182-218. The Raiders matched their exact team score from day one of the event and Wapahani senior Delaney Dodd matched her score of 40 as well.

Friday (Aug. 23)

Daleville volleyball took on its third straight road match to open the season against Cowan. The Broncos took the win in four sets 3-1. Daleville was led by senior Trishell Johnson with 23 kills while Blackhawks senior Allie Trimble notched eight kills for the black and yellow.

Saturday (Aug. 24)

The Taylor University Trojan Cross-Country Opener had runners from Daleville, Muncie Central, Delta and Wapahani. The top finisher for each school in the boys division was Wapahani’s Caleb Aber placing fourth (16:41.9), Delta’s Peyton Engle in 23rd (18:07.3), Muncie Central’s Reggie Reynolds placed 35th (18:29.9) and Daleville's Noah Colvin placed 52nd (19:02.3). The Wapahani Boys won the meet as a team with three runners in the top 20.

In the girls division, Wapahani’s AnnMarie Gibson placed ninth (20:53.6), Daleville’s Kynlie Keffer placed 17th (21:44.2), Delta’s Addison Shue placed 27th (22:54.6) and Muncie Central’s Lily Clark placed 50th (24:33). 

Wapahani girls’ golf played in the Monroe Central Invite alongside Delta and Yorktown. The Tigers placed third overall with junior Grace Turner placing first individually with a career-low of 83. The Raiders placed fourth overall with junior Kenzie Brannon placing second individually with an 85.

Yorktown volleyball played a doubleheader with the first match against the Bellmont Braves and the second against the Avon Orioles. The Tigers defeated the Braves in five sets in the first game. The green and black went on to take down the Orioles in four sets 3-1. No stats could be found.

Muncie Central volleyball played in a four-game tournament against Maconaquah, Kokomo, Richmond and South Bend Riley. The Bearcats lost all three of their first matches 2-0, but defeated South Bend Riley in the final match 2-0.

Muncie Central boys’ soccer hosted conference foe Kokomo and would fall by a score of 6-1. No stats could be found.

Delta girls’ soccer traveled to Mississinewa taking on the Indians in the second game of the 

Eagles’ season. The blue and gold took the victory 3-1. No stats could be found.

Muncie Burris girls’ soccer opened their 2024 season against Bethesda Christian. The Owls fell in their season opener 8-1. No stats could be found.
