Donald Trump was shot on stage during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania the afternoon of July 14. At least one rally attendee is dead and two are injured, according to the Associated Press (AP)

Law enforcement officials said the shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination and that an AR-style rifle was found on scene, according to AP.  The shooter, who has since been identified by the FBI as 20 year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by the Secret Service at the event, according to AP.

Law enforcement officials reported that "bomb-making materials" were found in Crooks vehicle at the rally and in his home, according to AP.

Right before the gunfire, Trump was showing a chart of border crossing numbers when pops could be heard and Trump’s hand went right to his right ear. He ducked down as Secret Service agents dove on top of him, according to AP.

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act ... He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow,” spokesman for the former presidents campaign Steven Cheung said in a statement.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump later said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

"The idea that there is political violence like this is unheard of ...  It's sick," President Biden said during a press conference last night. “I hope I get to speak to him [Trump] tonight."
