Two Ball State employees die of natural causes

Jeanne M. Bruner (1961 - 2024)

Jeanne M. Bruner, an employee at Bookmark Cafe inside Ball State University’s Bracken Library, died April 9 at age 62. Bruner is survived by her husband Bill, daughters Whitney, Lauren and Mallory, grandson Atlas and siblings Kevin, Keith and Kristine. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. April 14 at the Meeks Mortuary and Crematory Washington Street Chapel.

The family asks Memorial Contributions to be directed to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at www.ocrahope.org.

Janice Hanako Shimizu (1969 - 2024)

Janice Hanako Shimizu, architect and former director of the graduate program in architecture and assistant professor at Ball State, died April 11 at age 54. Her death was announced April 16 via the College of Architecture and Planning’s Instagram. Shimizu will be remembered by students and colleagues for cultivating opportunities for students to learn creatively and enthusiastically. She is succeeded by her children, Maya and Aaron and husband Joshua Coggeshall. A service will be held April 19, 2024 at Cornerstone Center for the Arts followed by a celebration in the E.B. Ball Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. and reception in the Colonnade Room.

In place of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Janice H. Shimizu Memorial Fund, the Ball State University Foundation, Powell Street Festival Society or Motivate Our Minds.
