MUNCIE, Ind.—It is always a bittersweet moment when the final regular season meet arrives. It is even more special for the program's seniors. Ball State Gymnastics capitalized on Senior Day with a win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Senior Hannah Ruthberg touches on what the day meant to her and the rest of the squad.
“Senior night, the win, and all the seniors getting recognized. I think that really motivates us and makes us feel ready to go,” said Ruthberg.
Head coach Joanna Saleem speaks on how important recognition is. She also emphasized the key to keeping focus.
Saleem mentioned, “Let’s not get caught up too much in the emotion part of it—to be recognized for the legacy they’re leaving and all the hard work they’ve put in over the last four years—of course, that’s something that needs to be done.”
Although the regular season has ended, the Cardinals will look to take to the skies one last time as they prepare for the MAC Championship.
Ruthberg added, “When we focus on doing what we do daily, the win happens at the end.”
As they prepare, Ball State will focus on one day at a time and execute each time they hit the floor.
“We have done that, and I think that is a huge confidence builder as you’re heading into the MAC Championship,” said Saleem.
The Cardinals will look to give the seniors a final fond farewell as the MAC Championship is set for Saturday, March 23rd, in Worthen Arena.
