The Cardinals continued their win streak against the Jaguars with a 7-0 sweep Friday afternoon.
In the previous few matches, the Cardinals have struggled in doubles play, but today this was not the case.
Doubles pairing junior Nathaniel Webster and graduate student Vince Orlando won their doubles match 6-2. Junior Mason Tran and sophomore Jacks Lancaster also won their doubles match 6-2.
While Courts 1 and 2 easily won their matches, the Court 3 pairing of Graduate student Eli Herran and Freshman Drew Hayward lost their game 2-6.
Regardless of this, head coach Bill Richards was excited about what Ball States' performance today meant.
“It was good to get the doubles point especially on the road get that doubles going to get some momentum going into singles,” Richards said.
Orlando echoed Richards and said that he was excited to get the doubles point today.
“We had a lot of energy, a great week of practice and we were playing together… just came out on a mission,” he said.
Orlando has been a consistent voice for the Cardinals this season, providing key play and minutes that contributed to their now 5-3 record.
Headed into singles play, Ball State carried their momentum.
“It was, you know, my teammates. We have a couple guys sick and so I didn't know I was gonna play until yesterday. So coming out there and play for the guys that are sick and you know, not able to be there. I think that motivate me and try and do the best for my teammates and I think it was great,” freshman Drew Hayward said.
The Cardinals will be back in action at home against Eastern Kentucky University on Sunday Feb. 25th.
