Ball State Men's Tennis defeated Xavier University with a 5-2 win. This continues their 2-0 win streak against Xavier and is their third straight win on the season.
The Cardinals had a shaky start during doubles play, yet they persevered and won 2-1 for the point.
At #1 doubles, grad student Vince Orlando and junior Nathaniel Webster lost 2-6.
Although #1 doubles had trouble, #2 and #3 doubles won to give Ball State the doubles play point.
At #2 doubles, junior Mason Tran and fifth year Parrish Simmons battled a win from Xavier with a set score of 6-4. At #3 doubles, grad student Eli Herran and freshman Drew Hayward dominated their doubles set with a score of 6-1.
Ball State came to life in singles play, winning 4 of the 6 points to take home the win.
Webber at #1, lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Tran at #2, also lost in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3.
Orlando split sets and then came back in the third to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at #3.
Herran lost the first, but took the second and third set to win with a score of 6(5)-7, 7-5, 6-4 at #4 singles.
Redshirt junior Sajin Smith won in straight sets at #5 singles with a set score of 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Broc Fletcher split sets and closely won the third with a set score of 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 at #6 singles.
Athletics did not respond to requests from the Daily News for post-match interviews.
The Cardinals will return on Saturday, January 27th at the University of Dayton. A start time has yet to be announced.
