Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour won a second term Tuesday, defeating Democratic nominee and former City Council President Jeff Robinson.
The county clerk released the unofficial election summary report, with 46 of the 52 precincts reporting. Ridenour received 4,689 votes (52.79 percent of total votes), while Robinson received 4,194 votes.
Ridenour becomes the first Republican to be elected to multiple terms as mayor of Muncie since Daniel Canan, who served three terms between 1996 and 2008. Ridenour was absent for much of the night at Republican Headquarters, leaving early due to illness.
"I look forward to working with a council that's interested in making Muncie what it should be," Ridenour said.
In his concession speech, Robinson reiterated his dedication to the Muncie community.
"Tonight's defeat does nothing for my love and passion for this community," he said. "We have so much to be proud of...and we're going to keep going... I am still going to work my ass off to serve Muncie."
Voter turnout was 19.56 percent, with fewer than 10,000 voters casting a ballot. The County Clerk office said that official results will be finalized in two weeks.
