Muncie, IND — No. 3 seed Ball State soccer hosted No. 6 Ohio last weekend in a MAC Quarter-Final Contest.
These two squads met late in the regular season, which resulted in a 2-2 draw, but this time, Ohio had other plans.
Just about 15 minutes in, it was Ohio’s Shae Robertson who broke the scoring silence off an Ella Deever assist.
After the goal, Ohio turned up the defense as they limit the Cards to a scoreless first half. It’s all defense in the second half, but then Ohio senior Izzi Boyd finds the back of the net to go up 2-0.
That would be the final as the Cards are sent home, as Ohio punches their ticket to the MAC tournament Semi-Final.
Ball State head coach Josh Rife reflected on the leadership of his seniors at the end of the year.
“I think it says a lot about our senior leadership. The seniors have been a part of a lot of great things and it really drove things forward,” Rife says.
“I’m really proud of that group, they all played different roles throughout the year. To still stay committed to that, it says a lot about them”.
Rife emphasized this message to the team.
“Control what we can control, that was our effort and attitude”.
This matchup marks the official end of the 2023 season for the Cardinals, as focus turns to the 2024 campaign.
