MUNCIE, Ind.---It was homecoming once again for Ball State football as the team looked to pick up their second win of the season.
The Cards knew the importance of this game, and came out on fire. The team conquered the Central Michigan Chippewas in style, 24-17.
Head coach Mike Neu felt the offense was the key to the win.
“Credit to the offense, credit to Kiael Kelly for leading the guys down the field making good decisions making good reads. Coop was running hard all day long…we all want to win and we’re all competitors,” Neu said.
This homecoming though, had an important meaning to senior Sidney Houston, who led the defense with two sacks on the day.
“It was emotional especially for me, this is my senior year, this is my last homecoming…everybody played [with] a lot of pride in this type of day,” Houston said.
In crunch time, Neu understood that quarterback Kiael Kelly had one thing on his mind when looking to cross the plane in the game’s final minutes.
“Kiael went and became an athlete, and he jumped over the top of the pile and got in in for a touchdown…that’s just a guy being a player,” Neu said.
Even after a cardinals win, star running back Marquez Cooper reflected on the importance of the rest of the season for the squad.
“We definitely know what’s on the line for the rest of these games… be ready for much more,” Cooper said.
Ball State will head to Bowling Green on Wednesday, November 1 for midweek MACtion.
