Meridian Health Services hosts 'Flu-Lapalooza'

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Meridian Health Services provided a one-day free flu clinic for Muncie residents on Oct. 6. With the flu season rapidly approaching, the aim with the Flu-Lapalooza was to provide a way for residents to be proactive with their healthcare and get the shot.

Dr. Sandhia, who was in part of helping out with the event, shared what she feels is the importance of the vaccination.

“Flu shots are for everyone. Even if you’re pregnant, you can get the shot. It doesn’t matter what age you are, [getting] the flu shot helps prevent conditions that come without getting the flu shot.”

The free flu shot event was also held at several other Meridian locations. Some locations even held a trunk-or-treat inviting families to come dressed up in costumes or just to come for the shot and tasty treats.

Monica Vuche, a nurse practitioner with Meridian, said "it’s a way for the community to come together and a way to get engaged. The last thing that we want to happen is to see a teenager get sick from the flu and then be out of school for a week or two weeks.”

While this may have only been a one-day event, Meridian is still encouraging everyone to get the flu before the cold/flu season starts. Whether that be going through them or another service, getting the flu shot may help if you endure a sickness related to the flu.

Ensuring you have the proper healthcare ahead of this upcoming season is a top priority of Meridian. For more information about future events and Meridian Health Services, go to their website.
