MUNCIE, Ind.--- Delta boys soccers' regular season has come to a close, and senior Brayden Stanley hopes to make school history with more than 20 goals and 10 assists in back to back seasons.
“That’d be awesome, I mean, coming in my high school season, my brother played and he set the previous record so I was starving for that, and this will just put a little icing on the cake,” said Stanley.
There is nothing sweeter for head coach Tony Pierce then to have a player like Stanley on his team sheet every week.
“It is huge just to have, like he said, his brother was a fantastic player here and just to see him come through and have the success that he’s had and to see him break his brother’s record last year. Then, have a chance to possibly get close to it this year, the work that he puts in is just unmatched in our team," said Pierce.
However, a quad injury has keep Stanley out for the past three weeks, and he has been dearly missed.
“The speed that he plays at is just next level, we do miss that, the game is a little slower when he’s not here, so we’re really looking forward to adding that dimension back to the game when he’s able to get back with us," said Pierce.
With Stanley’s return looming and sectionals around the corner, his eyes are on the prize.
“I want to win, it’s plain and simple, we’ve got to get out of the first round and we’ll take it game by game but we should win," said Stanley.
High school doesn’t last forever, and Stanley has high hopes for his future.
“My goal is to play soccer in college, we’ll see how that goes and we’ll see where that takes me, but that’s my goal," said Stanley.
Stanley and the Eagles take on the Mississenawa Indians in the first round of sectionals Tuesday at 7 p.m..
