MUNCIE, INDIANA.--- Cardinal Kitchen is a campus-wide anonymous pantry that provides free toiletries and food items for
students and staff at Ball State University.
Reece Malchow is a senior who has been involved with Cardinal Kitchen for all four of her years attending school. As a fourth-year member, she is currently the financial director of the organization.
Malchow claims she decided to get involved with Cardinal Kitchen “to do some volunteering opportunities and help out”.
Additionally, her mom started a food pantry at her church when she was younger, which provided her with more inspiration to get involved in college.
“I love getting to talk to our clients and see what they want and need and then shape our pantry over that,” Malchow explains. “It’s been fun to expand and make sure everyone gets what they need.”
According to the report, the financial director hopes to continue to expand the kitchen further after her time at Ball State. Her biggest hopes are to get a freezer and fridge as well as being able to order in bulk in an easier way.
“We hope to see more students coming in and utilizing [Cardinal Kitchen],” Malchow said.
Cardinal Kitchen is open the last three Tuesdays of every month from 5p.m. to 8 p.m.
