MUNICE, INDIANA—- A Ball State Men’s Baseball player won National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All America Second Team pitcher.
Same Klein, winner of the award, had an impactful year last year and a strong start this preseason.
“It means a lot to get this recognition, for the hard work that I put in,” Klein said. “I’m looking forward to using this season to prove them right.”
Head Coach Rich Maloney also had a say about Klein’s achievement. “Sam has a great work ethic. He has great poise, great competitive fire and his will to win is exceptional.”
Both Klein and Coach Maloney got to say their goals for this season. The Cardinals enter after last season’s 40-19 overall record, with a loss to Central Michigan for the MAC title.
“We want to make it to an NCAA Regional. That’s the number one goal.” said Klein. “Hopefully we make it past that, but that’s the first step.”
Coach Maloney says, “Well, we wanna be the best team we can be first and foremost.” Coach Maloney talks about the pieces and how his team has potential to go far. “There’s a lot of good pieces, we just have to put the rest of it together, to have a good season.”
Ball State takes the mound for their first game on February 17 at 3 p.m. in Charlotte, North Carolina.
