As third-year outside hitter Cait Snyder goes up for the kill, one thought is in her mind.
“I just wanted to put it away for the team, for me,” Snyder said. “It’s the championship point.”
Snyder’s team-high 12 kills propelled Ball State Women’s Volleyball (23-7, 15-3) past Toledo (18-11, 11-7) in straight sets to claim the program’s 10th regular season Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship.
“It feels awesome to repeat like last year, that’s a big challenge coming into a new season so repeating and now being able to host the MAC Tournament, that is big for us,” Snyder said.
Through the first and third sets, the Cardinals held the Rockets to hitting percentages of .091 and .045 respectively.
“We had to learn how to be disciplined with our blocking hands,” head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said. “They have some great attackers that hit really, really hard and if you go through the motions [while] blocking, you are going to get tooled.”
Ball State, with their first-round bye of the MAC Tournament, now looks toward the semi-finals of the MAC Tournament at Worthen Arena. If the Cardinals prevail Monday, they will also host host the championship game Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
“We need to make sure we are as mentally and as physically prepared as we can be,” Phillips said. “Keeping our composure and understanding it is all a part of the process is going to be a huge deal come MAC Tournament time.”
