MUNCIE, Ind.--- The Yorktown Tigers competed in the game of the year for high school women’s volleyball, facing off against the Hamilton Southeastern Royals in a battle for the state championship. This would be for their second state title since 2020.
Leading up to the game, senior setter Emilee Hill felt as though they came in with a chip on their shoulder losing to the Royals earlier on in the season.
“We came in number two, we really had nothing to lose,” Hill said. “A lot of people in here didn’t think we could pull it off.”
Yorktown unfortunately fell short 3-1 in a nailbiter to the very end. Head Coach Stephanie Bloom expressed her thoughts on the game.
“We had them where we wanted them in the third and weren’t able to finish,” Bloom said. “Of course, it’s a huge let down, but also really proud that we were here.”
Sophomore libero, Addi Applegate, believed the match could’ve gone either way if they pulled away a win in the third set.
“Honestly if I think we would’ve won that third set we would’ve gotten out of here with the dub,” Applegate said. “You know, things happen, I think we played really good and I’m proud of my team.”
As Hill finished her final season as a Tiger along with many others, she spoke on what her teammates mean to her as she moves on to the next stage of her career.
“I know that I’m going on and playing again and some of my teammates aren’t,” Hill said. “It pains me to know that this is their last game ever and this is how it had to end.”
Hill will begin her collegiate career playing volleyball for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels next year.
Looking forward to next season, Yorktown looks to compete for another state title.
