Looks for the shot. Takes her stance. Lines it up and shoots. Every goalkeeper's worst nightmare. The ball pings off the crossbar. She Bows her head until the crowd roars as the Bobcats are back in the game.
In the 54 minute of play, graduate forward Abby Townsend ricocheted the ball off the crossbar and into the goal after receiving an assist from fifth-year forward Regan Berg.
Ball State defeated Ohio 2-1 Oct. 16 despite the Bobcats getting a goal back in the second half.
Back to the start, Ball State strategized with a 4-3-3 formation with wing backs lined up before alternating to a 3-4-3.
Starting fast, a run down the sideline by a Cardinal was deflected off a Bobcat resulting in a corner and Fifth-year defender Lexy Smith took the kick and gave the assist to fifth-year defender Grace Alsop heading it in only 9 minutes into the game.
Ball State added another to the scoreboard in the 49 minute from second-year forward Lexi Fraley, assisted by third-year defender Abby Elgert.
It was only the second game this season that fourth-year forward Avery Fenchel did not appeared on the board after a Ball State dominated game. However, she still ended up with three shots on goal next to first-year forward Delaney Caldwell.
A yellow card was issued to head coach Josh Rife after a foul was issued on Lexy Smith that gave the Bobcats the opportunity to capitalize.
