Ball State plays in pink to support those who fight breast cancer.
Every player had some type of pink visible. Those on the field wore hair bands, bows, tape and pre-wrap while their teammates cheering on the sideline wore pink pennies.
“My mom is a cancer survivor as well,” heach coach Josh Rife said. “We want to give a little honor and recognition to those who are fighting right now and those who were.”
Although the game ended in a 1-1 draw the Cardinals played for more than just their winning streak tonight, “hopefully we were able to continue to bring awareness, and one day I hope we will find a cure to help those in the future,” Rife said.
As winter approaches and the fall weather begins to shift, players are adapting to the conditions they play in.
“Sport is a great teacher, you want to control the things you can, so while [the] weather is a factor, I don’t think you dwell on it too much,” Rife said.
No matter how the ref calls the play, Rife said you have to be prepared for every situation and respond accordingly.
Akron’s first-year forward Emma King scored in the 76th minute of the game moments after a cardinal had fallen to the ground in the box. No whistle was blown by the ref and the Zips had the goal to tie.
The Cardinals had 17 shots, but couldn’t finish all of them, while the Zips only took 5, all in the second half. Coach Rife plans to look back at the film and learn from their mistakes so they can prepare for future opponents.
“Film doesn’t lie," Rife said.
