Ball State soccer (1-3-3, 0-0-0 MAC) drove an hour south to take on Butler (3-4-1, 0-0-0 BEC) in Indianapolis Sept. 15, leaving Indiana's capital with a 2-2 draw.
The Cardinals were not on the board until the 50th minute while the Bulldogs scored their final goal within the 46th minute.
The Bulldogs came out with the first goal in the 6th minute of the game, quickly bringing the score to 1-0. The goal was scored by redshirt senior forward Katie Soderstrom who placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal after launching it off her right foot.
Within the first minute of the second half, redshirt junior forward Abigail Isger scored, finding the bottom right corner of the net with her left foot. Soderstrom’s name was up on the stat again in the game for her assist giving Butler a 2-0 lead.
Within 9 minutes of the Bulldogs' second goal, the Cardinals pushed back into the game making it 2-1. This goal was scored by junior midfielder Avery Fenchel.
As the game counted down the Cardinals found another opportunity in the 77th minute to place it in the exact same corner of the net. Fifth-year midfielder Sammi Corcoran was able to convert with her left-footed shot in what would be the final goal scored in the game.
Throughout the game, there were 15 fouls alternating between both teams, while the Cardinals were the only side to receive yellow cards for misconduct. The first card was issued in the 34th minute of the game on sophomore defender Alex McPhee. The second was shown in the 73rd minute of the game to junior defender Abby Elgert. The third and final whistle to issue a card was in the 85th minute on fifth-year defender Grace Alsop.
Ball State stays on the road for its next matchup, beginning Mid-American Conference (MAC) play against rivals Miami University (4-2-1, 0-0-0 MAC) Sept. 22 – kickoff is at 4 p.m.
