August 2, it was announced via press release that Ball State University Esports would be partnering with international Esports organization Gen.G. Gen.G is an organization focused on connecting Asia and the United States via esports.
Gen.G does so by having competitive esports teams in the United States, South Korea and China. According to their website, they were ranked No. 6 in Forbes' 2020 list of the world's most valuable esports companies and are the "only major organization that owns and operates top teams" in the aforementioned markets.
This partnership serves the purpose of continuing to make Ball State a nationwide leader in esports and provide opportunities for those involved in esports at Ball State in the College of Communication, Information, and Media (CCIM) and for Gen.G student-athletes.
Gen.G student-athletes will now have the opportunity to apply for admission into Ball State CCIM's esports program, including those still in high school. According to the earlier mentioned press release, "seven student-athletes from the Gen.G Elite Esports Academy (GEEA), Gen.G’s international school program, have been accepted to Ball State for the Fall 2022 semester."
This partnership aims to help current Ball State Esports student-athletes continue to improve and gain international experience alongside Gen.G student-athletes.
