GREENWOOD, Ind. (NewsLink) – Two people were injured and four people were pronounced dead in a shooting, including the gunman, at the Greenwood Park Mall Sunday night.
Details were released that an active shooter was called in around 6:00 p.m. firing in the mall’s food court.
In an initial press conference, IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey said that victims were transported to local hospitals and mall goers were able to be reunited with others across Lowes Boulevard. Stores were placed on lockdown while police swept the building. According to Bailey, the shooter had a “long gun.”
In a second press conference, it was learned that a citizen shot and killed the shooter in the food court. Greenwood Police Chief James Ison said no motive has been determined. Police are still investigating the scene, which includes a “suspicious backpack” in the bathroom near the food court.
On Monday, police identified the shooter as Johnathan Sapirman, 20, of Greenwood.
