Ball State Women’s Tennis (12-3, 3-1 MAC) entered its away match at Eastern Michigan (12-11, 2-2 MAC) riding an eight match win streak, but the Eagles had other plans.

The Cardinals earned the first points of the match by winning two of the three doubles matches, but fell to Eastern Michigan 4-3 April 1. Here are three takeaways from Ball State's loss.

Cardinals find success in doubles

Junior Amy Kaplan and senior Hannah Davies defeated the Eastern Michigan duo of redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan and redshirt sophomore Isabelle Pompa 6-2.

After its initial victory, Ball State junior Emma Peeler and sophomore Mariya Polishchuk claimed the Cardinals second doubles win beating redshirt seniors Luis Pelayo and Grace Whitney 6-4.

Keeping the momentum is important

Following their two victories in doubles, the Cardinals started singles play with a victory. Davies defeated Ganesan in straight sets 2-0 (7-5, 6-1).

In between Davies’ and Kaplan’s wins, Eastern Michigan won four singles points to claim the overall match win.

Kaplan also secured a singles point after she defeated Pompa in three sets. However, this was the last singles match played after the Eagles won the match.

Davies and Kaplan stay out of the loss column

Davies and Kaplan won both of their singles matches and their lone doubles match. Davies and Kaplan remain undefeated individually in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play at 4-0.

Ball State returns to action April 3 against Northern Illinois (13-8, 0-3 MAC). The match begins at 1 p.m.
